Id go hondata easy to tune and once tuned perfect drivability. I have known several people here in town with the AEM and none of them have there caes running properly. they all take for ever to start, hesitate, and have all sorts of drivability problems.'

AEM? ?
What about the Black Civic Si that put down 475whp on the dyno? What standalone does he run?
What about the Black Supra that put down 902whp on the dyno? What standalone does he run?
What about the Red Supra that put down 5XXwhp on the dyno? What standalone does he run?
......All AEM, and it didnt take a "profesional" to tune any of them, just a lap top and couple fingers to hit buttons.
What has yours dyno'd? I mean, it must be tuned on the dyno already since its so easy to tune, right?

I'm from CT and I go to school in RI/live in Newport, so I'm familiar with a few different tuners. My first choice is:
Pruven Performance
Milford, CT
They're not too far and they are by far the best Honda tuner in the northeast.
Porsche Speed Sport
Norwalk, CT
They're anal about tuning Japanese cars because they're all about Europeans, but for the right price they might help u.
I don't know the name of it, but there's one in Seekonk, Mass right across the street from Seekonk Speedway. They're not great, but they're cheap and close. If I was you, I'd go to Pruven (they're famous for they're Mitsu GSX's that woop ass in the Sport Compact Car "Ultimate Street Car Shootout" and they just got back from the 2004 USCS event with their new 800 hp Mitsu Evo 8.

I offer no affiliation with either one. I have stated in the past that a Honda producing under 300whp(boundaries of stock block), are in no dire need of any standalone system. However, i do believe in "getting what you pay for". If your going to spend the money, at least get the better one on the market, and a true standalone at that.
There is also a car running around here, a blue Civic Si that John and I both know. A turbo blue Civic Si that is running the Hondata. Last i heard, the car was attempted to be tuned on the dyno, but was not achieved.
I just think its strange that before all this HONDATA stuff came about, there were alot of us on this board making equivelent/more whp with FMU's, Cartech's being specific(I loved mine). I mean, im not sure if any of us used all the JR BANDAIDS even? I know i didnt. The MAP thing wasnt out, the VPAC wasnt out, the BTC wasnt out. I think the only thing that HOLDEN had was the J&S. I couldnt afford one, so i just kept the timing backed WAAAY off. I mean, so what if "off-throttle" is mushy, it only matters when you go FULL THROTTLE/RACING? Am i right? What about that SCHYBRID guy?! Ran 6, 9, 11, 15psi on his car with an FMU and was able to crank out 12.4's and with the nice intercooler system he fabbed up came really, really close to an 11 with 12.1?! I mean, all these cars are proof to me that if its working, stick with it. All these cars have ran forever and have been abused regularly with drag racing, autox, open-track, hell, HOLDEN took his on a damn dirt rally cross! (ME=JEALOUS!! )
I know your(Jim)Hybrid was running mid/high 12's in the 1/4. Holdens car was doing low,LOW 13's on street tires. I only 1/4'd my car once at 6psi and it did 14.1@102, which the mph was right in "spec" for what i had, even for the ultimate excuse, BAD TRACK. Also, CROM and I went back and forth with local 1/8th mile times in the mid 8's, with both putting good MPH's with his being 86 on slicks and mine 88 on streets. All of these cars were making 210whp to 250whp, way back then(6psi to 10psi respectively).
I know that there is a market for everything, and with new Honda kids coming into the market everyday, there is a good buck to be made from that. Putting the HONDATA on something just to get it to do what the car SHOULD'VE done without it, is like putting 10mm plug wires on your stock Civic DX. Looks great and makes people think theres something, but in actuallity, no.
Everyones looking to make a buck and with new self made "t00nUrZ" coming outta the woodworks, its just another over-priced money maker in the import performance market. Now instead of product gouging, they can sell basically "LABOR" from "t00nUrZ" to just punch keys on keypad to make a car run like it should have without the device. Money, money, money.....
Im not throwing mud at anyone, these are only my opinions on what ive experienced with my car, and random readings on other boards, links sent by other people and what not. If you have a HONDATA, congratulations I hope all is well. Someone on here ran low 8's or high 7's with his hybrid Civic recently I believe, BoostedEX? I dunno.... Thats a good time.
Ive got a link on how to do everything a HONDATA can control for about 160$, it was sent to me by a friend "in the middle of alota things" that knows his stuff, ill get with him, get the link and post here........and you guys can decide, instead of listening to my spittings.

Hondata made my car 10000x more fun to drive, with more power everywhere, no detonation, and a ridiculously smooth transition into boost. And it didnt cost much at all. I would recommend Hondata to anyone. It also seems a hell of a lot more simple, as well as more reliable and cheaper than the FMU/AFC/Map Mod/BTC/J&S route.
What I wouldn't do is downplay the benefits of the AEM EMS, because, if needed, it has many more features than Hondata. I just would never use them, so no need to pay for AEM.
As for tuners in RI...how far are you from NJ? There is a solid Hondata tuner in the tri-state area that should be able to help you out if thats within your reach, Ill give you his info.

Tony,
I didn't think you ENDORSED any aftermarket engine management system... however, based on your statement above, it seems you show distaste for the Hondata system and offer praise for others...
What gives ?!?

1995 Milano Red GSR
Finally, shes tuned!
214/150 @ 6PSI
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thats a tuned HONDATA? I made 210/153(@6psi)on the JR relay-clicker and the JR FMU. No tuning, just put the kit on and hoped for the best. Thats alota money spent to just run "supposed to have already" numbers. This was also done on an OBDII 96> GSR, which are supposedly more finicky to the OBDI's. Food for thought.........
